Shannon D. Book, Singer-Songwriter: "WELCOME HOME"

Petty Officer First Class Shannon Book, was born and raised in the small town of Hazel Green, KY. He grew up with a great appreciation for music and has always sung and played various instruments throughout his life. Feeling the urgency to serve his country after Desert Storm, Shannon joined the U.S. Navy in July 1993.

Shannon has since gone on to train as a Fleet Marine Force Hospital Corpsman at Naval School Health Sciences, San Diego, Field Medical Service School, Camp Pendleton, CA, as well as instruct at Field Medical Training Battalion, Camp Johnson, NC. PO1 Book has served in two combat deployments in Iraq.

The first in 2003 with 2nd Battalion 1st Marines as part of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit to Iraq; and again in 2004 during Vigilant Resolve as the Regimental Combat Team 1, Personal Security Detachment corpsman. While in country, he would play guitar and sing for those around him during down time to help relieve the stresses of modern day warfare.

Recently retired from the U.S. Navy due to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Shannon is working on a complete collection of original songs reflecting his time in combat, his injuries, both physical and emotional, and living with the aftermath of war. He hopes his music will educate those here at home, as well as help heal those that have shared in some of his experiences.
